Up and Dan...The Singlet Photoshoot Story
Someone pass me the mic I need to testify. Around this time last month, I was replaying the idea I had for the Stargirl Singlet photoshoot in my mind. Basically, the vibe I was going for was a lifestyle, day out, brunch babes, living life in a nice restaurant kinda thing. And this has been on my mind for a few months but I had no models, so I had to get it cracking asap.
I remember I was looking to do an abroad shoot for another piece that's due to drop soon and I saw Dublin flight prices were looking cute and immediately I thought of Anu. Anu is an amazing customer and now a friend of ours that has supported us a lot pretty much since we launched 2 years ago. So far everything was making sense. After a few days of thinking about going to Dublin, I shouted her to see if she was down and thankfully she was, I told her the whole concept and plan and what not but I needed two friends for the other colours and she introduced me to Sewa and Favour.
As the plan was really planning, we spoke, vibed etc and I made the samples I'm their sizes. This was a big point for me as before I even asked Anu, my sister and cousin agreed that I'll need to have models that wear different sizes as I know with womenswear sizing is tekky and representation will help the customers choose their correct sizing especially that it's a pre-order drop. Thankfully they were sizes UK8, UK10 and UK12, so they fit exactly what I had in mind.
As the day got closer we ironed out the details, like the restaurant, the type of shots I wanna take, poses etc. And finally, July 9th arrived. The night before I barely slept, not on a nervous ting but more time cuz I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to trek to Stansted. Everything was nice and smooth, from arriving at the airport, the flight, landed, alla dat was nice and easy, no wahala. Except for one spanner that was in the works. Basically, as it's only the singlet I'm dropping it needed to be styled with other brands' pieces to complete the look for the shoot but for Anu we couldn't find a combo that was gonna give all it needed to so I had to run up and dan, up and dan to buy something for her once I landed.
So picture this, I'm in the shopping centre, time is running out until our booking at the restaurant, it's hot in these shops, it's packed, the queues are mad and I'm sweating unnecessarily kmt. Running from shop to shop, facing disappointment after disappointment. Bear in mind, that I still haven't met up with the girls yet. Eventually, I go to another shop and I'm just there picking at anything I find in her size before she arrives so there are options. Eventually, I meet the girls, buy the jeans and returned whatever didn't fit or look nice. And we're ready to go to the restaurant after pushing the booking back a few times.
After gallivanting, we finally find a cab and I get a call. "Hi, we're closing the kitchen in 10 mins until 5pm" (it was almost 3pm and my flight back home was at 8pm), sorry you're closing what??? I'm not one to outwardly panic, it all happens in my mind, I'm rattled thinking if this cab driver doesn't put his foot down, everyting dun! Glory be to God we make it in time, maybe just 3 mins to spare, order food, take a few more pics, vibe etc. And in my mind, I'm forward thinking that time is running out and I need to organise myself to get content. After we were done, we get a few more pics in the building then we go outside and this is where the fun started.
When we go outside, I do a little mini shoot with everyone but individually. We were doing Ireland's Next Top Model live-o on the streets of Dublin and the ladies did what they had to do. I tried to give each model a unique background to give an individual look for socials. I didn't have much to play with but we made it work. Also, I made a conscious decision to take film and digital pics because film can possibly get damaged by airport security machines, so I had to cover myself.
As the day was winding in, they mentioned that Dublin's Chinese food was bussin, and I'm not a foodie in the slightest, I'm a simple guy, but they said I needed to grab a Spice Bag before I left and off we went. And I'll give it a good 7 out of 10. It's basically like after the club food, just fried chicken strips, chips, peppers, onions and seasoning and it kinda tastes like Sensations crisps.
Not me doing foot reviews.
After all of this running up and down, I headed back to the airport to go home, and it was a successful day but honestly, I was nervous about the film pics as you don't know what they'll look like until they're developed, so I did that on Monday and got them back the same day and the rest is history.
It was a journey worth doing, and I'll thank the girls forever for blessing me. And I thank God for another dream and vision I see in my head coming to tangible fruition.
The Stargirl Singlet drops on Friday at 7PM (UK time) for 72hrs only. And as per, we drop and move on. Mandem, grab it for your babes, Ladies, treat yourself with one or maybe all three.
With love,
